What’s the Purpose of That Little White Device on the Traffic Light Pole?

  1. about its traffic equipment and enforcement policies.

Do These Devices Take Pictures of Drivers?
It depends on the type of equipment.

A radar detector generally identifies movement using radio waves rather than taking photographs. An infrared sensor may detect objects or activity without producing a conventional photograph.

A video-based traffic sensor or monitoring camera may capture images of the roadway, vehicles, or intersection.

That doesn’t automatically mean it identifies individual drivers, records every passing vehicle, or stores footage indefinitely.

How images and other data are handled depends on the device, its purpose, and the policies of the organization operating it.
